Kenosha harbor dredging started at the mouth of the channel Monday morning, reports kenoshanews.
The dredged material is being pumped two miles north to holding ponds in Pennoyer Park.
Dave Anderson is the owner of Shoreline Builders said the channel will be dredged to a depth of 12 feet.
The Kenosha Harbor was last dredged in 2009. The silt buildup in the harbor let to the Kenosha City Council seeking a long-term solution to the buildup and a dredging of the harbor this year.
Based on the city’s budget, the harbor was scheduled to be dredged last year, but the city did not move forward with that work and the permit lapsed.
The entire dredging project should be completed by late July or early August.
