Area residents are invited to attend a public meeting on the Dredging Feasibility Project that is taking place this summer on Chautauqua Lake, informs post-journal.com.
This year’s speaker will be Dr. Elizabeth Moran, President of EcoLogic LLC, who will speak on managing the watershed to control plant and algae growth and the dredging feasibility study that is underway this summer on Chautauqua Lake.
EcoLogic, LLC will investigate the feasibility of dredging selected areas of Chautauqua Lake in order to improve navigation and recreational access.
The Town of Ellicott and the Chautauqua County Department of Planning & Economic Development (CCPED) were awarded a grant from the New York State, Department of State – Division of Coastal Resources to conduct two projects: 1) Investigate the feasibility of dredging selected areas of Chautauqua Lake in order to improve navigation and recreational access; and 2) Complete a stream restoration project in the Goose Creek and Dutch Hollow Watersheds. In addition to these projects, the development of a Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan will begin in the summer of 2012. All three projects are part of the implementation phase of the Chautauqua Lake Watershed Management Plan. CCPED is coordinating these efforts, which focus on managing the sources of nutrients and sedimentation to Chautauqua Lake, and reducing their impacts on the Lake quality and depth.
