Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) have been joined by the LNG dredging project team to mark the successful completion of a major revegetation project in Gladstone.
Funded by the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project, the revegetation project planted over 16 thousand native plants, trees and bushes to restore the area previously used as a haul road to access Fisherman’s Landing.
The team members were praised by CVA Project Officer, Karl French , for their commitment and dedication.
“As a registered training organisation CVA believe in investing in young people to prepare them for the workplace,” Mr French said.
“We are proud of what they achieved together on this tree-planting and mulching project.
“As the scope of the project grew and new challenges came up the team showed they were adaptable, willing to learn and ready for the world of work.”
Andrew Blundell has been a Bush Regenerator on the project since the start.
“ It is great to see how our hard work has made a difference to this area, ” he explained.
“ We all learnt a lot about teamwork, safety as well as land management and the local plants and wildlife.”
Gladstone Ports Corporation is restoring areas of natural habitat as it carries out the dredging and disposal project with respect for the local environment.
GPC CEO Leo Zussino congratulated the CVA on the professionalism of the whole team, all of whom had been on the project throughout the entire six months of the works.
“ It’s great these young people were given valuable work experience and training as part of our environmental conditions, ” Mr Zussino said.
