The Port Technology reports that the Port Evaluation Management (Port-Evo) has this week proposed an investment of around US$1 billion for the redevelopment of Mongla Port.
This announcement was made following a meeting between the UK’s Foreign Secretary William Hague and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.
In the meeting, Hague said that Port-Evo would provide Bangladesh’s second largest port with funds for dredging, harbor cranes, container terminals, oil tank storage and a water treatment plant, according to the Port Technology.
In response, Sheikh Hasina said that she would now consider the proposal, adding that the UK is a time-tested friend and major development partner of Bangladesh.
