According to porttechnology.org, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced that it is launching a tender for the design and build of three new deepwater berths at its second port in Lamu.
Speaking to Reuters, Gichiri Ndua, managing director of KPA, said that the bidding process is open to local and international firms.
The new $5.3 billion port in Lamu is part of the East African country’s $23 billion transport corridor project, which will link Lamu with both Ethiopia and the newly independent South Sudan.
Porttechnology.org also reports that this ambitious project will include the build of a new railway network, pipeline, airport and refinery.
