The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced yesterday that a contract was awarded to Southwind Construction Corps. in the amount of $2.3 million for maintenance dredging of the St. Augustine Inlet.
The contract consists of maintenance dredging of approximately 162,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand within the St. Augustine reach of the Intracoastal Waterway. Dredging will be to an authorized depth of 12 feet. The resulting beach quality sand will be placed within Anastasia State Park between Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Monuments R-134 and R-139. The pipeline being utilized to place the sand within Anastasia Park will run along the east side of Salt Run.
The total contract duration is 104 days, which includes a 30 day mobilization period. Dredging is expected to begin in late September.
The effort is being jointly funded by between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Florida Inland Navigation District.
