The Ocean City Council on Thursday unanimously approved borrowing $617,500 to pay for the city’s upcoming beach replenishment project.
“ The current conditions out there would tell the Army Corps that the project will extend to somewhere in the 14th to 17th street areas only, ” City business administrator Mike Dattilo said.
According to oceancity.patch.com, this project would restore the beaches to their original profile, including those at Waverly Beach and Fifth Street Beach that have seen severe erosion.
The project, which is funded by the federal, state and local governments, is estimated to cost $10 million, with the city’s share at 8.75 percent or $1.1 million approximately, reports shorenewstoday.com.
“ This would come approximately three years after the last beach fill and that is the agreement that we’re fortunate to be a part of ,” concluded Dattilo.
