Award winning Sunshine Coast based dredging company, Hall Contracting, has won a major contract to create a new approach for cargo ships at the Port of Brisbane.

Cameron Hall , the Managing Director of Hall Contracting , said the appointment was a real coup for the dredging, civil contracting and marine civil company, which this year celebrates 65 years in business.

“The Port of Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing container port, and Queensland’s largest general cargo port and the whole team at Hall Contracting are very excited to be coming on board to deliver this important project, ” Mr Hall said.

“ Our job over the next four to five months will involve creating a new approach for cargo ships at berths 12 and 13 and in that time, more than 450,000 cubic metres of material will be removed from the Brisbane River– that’s the equivalent of about 45,000 large tip truck loads.”

To help them achieve the job, which kicked off in July, Hall Contracting has purchased the 750mm cutter suction dredge called “Amity”.

“ Amity joins our growing fleet of cutter suction dredges to ensure we can get the job done effectively and on time ,” Mr Hall said.

“With her ability to dredge to depths of 18m, Amity is up to the task of tackling the Port of Brisbane where she has previously done extensive work.”

Since their inception in 1946, Hall Contracting have grown from humble beginnings to become one of the leading dredging contractors in Australia, South East Asia and the Pacific Islands, and are continuing to expand rapidly in the international market.

They operate one of Australia’s largest dredging fleets backed up by an extensive array of ancillary equipment including workboats, booster pumps, work barges and pipelines.

As one of the Sunshine Coast’s longest standing companies, Mr Hall contributes their success to their staff and their expanding range of services that has helped maintain Hall Contracting’s competitive edge over the years.

“ We’ve really made an effort to grow and adapt to adequately service the market,” he said. “After our inception in the mid-1940s, we gradually expanded our services to include dredging and civil construction plus our marine civil division is experienced in constructing pipeline shore connections, weirs, seawalls and bridges.”
