Several dredgers are battling extreme low-water conditions along the Mississippi River to keep commercial navigation moving on America’s super highway.

One of them, the Potter, is scooping the stretch of the Mississippi River’s navigation channel just south of St. Louis, the ship’s 32-foot-wide head sucking up about 60,000 cubic yards of sediment each day.

According to telegram.com, some stretches of the Mississippi River are nearing the record low-water levels experienced in 1988, when river traffic was suspended in several spots.

A lot of navigation interest teams are meeting daily to address the low-water issues with closer coordination and continuous communication.
