The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $469,000 contract to Ceres Environmental Services, Inc., of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Aug. 20 to complete repairs to the Mouse (Souris) River levee system damaged during the 2011 flood.
The project will restore multiple sites in Burlington, N.D., and Minot, N.D., as well as the Terracita Vallejo neighborhood, that were damaged during the flood. The work primarily consists of levee and channel restoration along the federal project in these communities. Additional work includes sediment removal at the storm water ponding area near the Perkett pumping station and placing riprap at one of the grade control structures in Minot.
Construction is likely to begin in September and the work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.
The Corps of Engineers has spent more than $2.8 million in restoration projects to the Mouse River federal flood risk management project since the flood. This is the final project repair to the levee system. Once complete, residents will have the same flood protection they had prior to the flood.
