The dredging project that will create a deep channel in Darwin Harbour is expected to commence in the next few days.
Barry Carbon, the chair of the Icthys Project Expert Dredging Panel , said: “ The Japanese gas giant Inpex is bringing in the largest dredge ship ever seen in Australia to the Northern Territory .”
According to the plan, it is expected that about 15 million cubic metres of hard soil will be moved in the operation.
The ABC News reports that this dredging should create a deep channel for LNG carriers to load gas at a multi-billion dollar processing plant being built at Blaydin Point.
