Steve Pomers, the spokesman for the Southport Volunteer Marine Rescue, said that the silted-up entrance to the Broadwater was dangerous for all users but especially for recreational boaties.
He stated: “ The deeper the Broadwater is, the less chance there is of waves breaking within it.”
According to goldcoast.com, the Broadwater dredging program has been an ongoing issue for several years.
“The amount of sand in there has made it shallower and forces the waves to break within the walls, making it difficult from a navigational point of view,” concluded Pomers.
