Germany: Kundt, Mützelfeldtwerft to Build Dredgers in Cuxhaven

The Mützelfeldtwerft Nord GmbH, Cuxhaven, and the Kundt ServiceGmbH, Dormagen, will start working together in Cuxhaven under the joint brand name “MKS dredging” manufacturing and assembling excavator pontoons (“Backhoe Dredger”).

“MKS dredging” benefits from the geographical advantages in Cuxhaven The Kundt Service GmbH, which has over 30 years experience in the construction of Backhoe Dredgers, and which is currently building a PC 5500 for the Panama Canal Authority, has decided to relocate the building and installation of their Backhoe Dredger operation to Cuxhaven.

Managing Partner, Franz Josef Kundt, announced: “ Thanks to the joint production of excavator pontoons with a strategically located shipyard, we can now benefit from significant time and cost advantages. Also, both companies will benefit from the joint expertise in pontoon construction, creating future opportunities to further increase our high‐quality technical solutions, with tailored services to meet the needs of our customers.”

First project

Mützelfeldtwerft is currently building a main boom for a Backhoe Dredger at the location in Cuxhaven, which will be delivered to the Panama Canal Authority. The shipyard’s site in Cuxhaven has a deep‐water port with floating dock and a shipbuilding hall, where excavator pontoons can be built and mounted up to a size of 80m x 21m with excavators weighing up to 650t.

Joint exhibition booth at SMM in Hamburg

The two companies will appear together for the first time at the SMM in Hamburg, which takes place from 4th to 7th September (Combined booth: Peter Gast Shipping, Hall B3, Ground Floor, booth no. 204).

Mützelfeldtwerft

In its over 120‐year history, Mützelfeldtwerft has built numerous double‐hulled tankers and specialized vessels. Since 2004, the yard has specialized in the construction of modern deep‐sea and anchor handling tugs, which are amongst the most powerful worldwide. In addition, the company has extensive experience in construction, remodeling and servicing of large‐scale hydraulic engineering equipment (e.g. MP27 by Josef Möbius Bau).

Kundt Service

Kundt Service is specialized in building and customizing Backhoe Dredgers and has over 30 years experience in this field. Kundt Service is a licensed partner of Komatsu. Customers of Kundt Service include Van Oord (PC 3000SP), Boskalis (PC 5500) and the Panama Canal Authority (PC 5500).
