General Electric’s $1 billion PCB removal project resumes on the Hudson River, according to timesunion.com.

Mark Behan, GE spokesman , said: “ This year has been terrific as far as productivity goes.”

The project is expected to remove 2 million cubic yards of contaminated sediment on a 40-mile stretch from Fort Edward to Troy by 2015 or 2016.

Timesunion.com reports that this year the project will likely hit its half-way point.

Dredge operators on 12-hour shifts work constantly digging out the polluted muck as other machines replace it with clean local sediment.

The work is all overseen by the EPA.
