Alewijnse RETEC Romania has delivered recently its first designed, produced and commissioned complete electrical package together with the electrical propulsion system and static converter distribution on board of 750 cbm Hopper Dredger, built in Damen Shipyards Galati.

Although the overall lenght of the vessel is 59.20m, gross tonnage aprox 700GT, sustaining a crew of 10 persons, she has a very complex electrical installation. The vessel is equiped with 3x 476kW, 690V-60Hz generators, 2 x 200kW, 690V-60Hz / 400V/50Hz static converters, frequency drive water cooled electrical propulsion, dredge and jet pump. Alewijnse RETEC Romania delivered besides the complete electrical package and dredging control system, also the engineering, installing activity and the commissioning.

The team of 10 engineers led by an experienced senior project leader, in cooperation with the automation and commissioning departments, succeeded in combining high-tech equipments from world-renowned names in the naval field (Allen Bradley, Vacon, Schneider and Praxis) and to come up with a 100% Romanian achievement. This makes Alewijnse RETEC Romania the only supplier for this kind of electrical solution in Romania.

But the result did not come up easy. One of the main challenges was to solve the electro- magnetic incompatibility onboard. According to Mr. Gigi Saptelei, the Operational Manager of Alewijnse RETEC, it can be extremely challenging not to have electro- magnetic disturbances in a small space.

“Delivering this modern, more efficient electrical solution was a difficult task, but we are proud to have accomplished it ,” says Mr. Alexandru Munteanu, Senior project leader of this project . He also adds that the new electrical solution has a wide applicability range, should there be more demands for it.

Alewijnse RETEC Romania has been offering for 16 years full range of electrical services (from engineering to commissioning) for the electrical marine market, as well as electrical equipment and after sales services for the complete electrical system of a ship.
