“The current seabed depth of 11 metres at the Penang Port is not deep enough and it should be increased to 15 metres, ” stated Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
A deeper channel will allow bigger ships to enter the port and have access to the upgraded RM680 million wharf.
“This is what the state has been asking for and I hope that (Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib (Abdul Razak) will listen to the people of Penang,” he concluded.
The Port of Penang is managed and operated by Penang Port SDN BHD, a corporate entity set up under the Malaysia Government’s privatisation policy.
