Although the $38-million dredging project was completed in January, the Sydney Harbour still cannot receive larger ships.

Jim Wooder, chairman of Sydney Marine Group and former project manager of the dredging , said: “ Creating a new chart could be completed within two months but moving the lights will take longer. It is not clear how much the extra work will cost, but Ottawa will be footing the bill. ”

The dredging contractor, Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V., fulfilled the contract of dredging the navigation channel to a minimum depth of 16 metres, reports thechronicleherald.ca.

“ But a new chart needs to be developed from scratch before larger ships can be enticed to use the harbour ,” concluded Wooder.
