The dredging project on the navigation channel below Lock and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River is underway.

Hydraulic dredging operation began Sunday and is expected to end Friday, or even tomorrow.

Ron Fournier, spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , said: “It’s been a while since they’ve dredged there and it’s considered routine scheduled maintenance dredging, not due to the low water or the drought . The dredging is done to ensure a minimum 9-foot navigation channel for commercial tows. They should be finishing up tonight and packing up the gear tomorrow to head out of town.”
