On Saturday, the construction work has begun on a submerged breakwater in the Kainan City harbor, Wakayama Prefecture, western Japan.
According to newsonjapan.com, the steel pipes measuring 3 meters wide and 30 meters long were buried in the seabed.
“ The breakwater will greatly reduce damage caused by tsunami ,” stated an official at the regional development bureau.
The breakwater in the harbor of Kainan City will be the first of its kind in Japan.
