The long-awaited Lake Olmstead dredging project could commence early next year, depending on the permits which are under negotiation with the Army Corps of Engineers.
“ If that is approved, then we can go back every few years, based on our monitoring, to see if more sediment is filling it up again ,” Hameed Malik, the city’s assistant engineering director said.
The cleanup program will involve dredging of around 130,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from the lake, according to augusta.com.
“There will also be things done to restore the lake and enhance the recreational aspect of it, too ,” concluded Malik.
