USA: NHC Hires Coastal Coordinator

New Hanover County announces the hiring of H. Layton Bedsole Jr. as the County’s Shore Protection Coordinator, filling a key role tasked with managing the County’s waterways, shore protection, and beach nourishment efforts.

H. Layton Bedsole Jr., a Wilmington area native, will join the County October 30, 2012, transitioning from the private sector where he has recently served as senior project manager for Dial Cordy and Associates, an independent environmental consulting firm providing environmental science and planning, natural resource management, and regulatory compliance services for governmental agencies. As the former Director of Enviromental Affairs for the N.C. State Ports Authority, Bedsole brings more than 30 years of environmental affairs and project management experience focused on protecting coastal waterway resources.

“ An integral part of the County’s strategic plan is our commitment to develop, maintain and implement comprehensive plans for economic development, and environmental programs. ” said Chris Coudriet, New Hanover County Manager . “ I’m confident Layton’s professionalism and industry experience will positively augment our shore protection and inlet management team .”

“ I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my career in New Hanover County and look forward to using my experience to build solid relationships focused on protecting our precious coastal assets ,” said Bedsole.

Bedsole, who has served the North Carolina Water Resources Congress, North Carolina Port Advisory Council, and as chairman of the New Hanover County Port Waterway & Beach Commission; holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Marine Biology.
