The long-awaited dredging project on the Housatonic River is scheduled to begin by the end of October, and should last about one month.
Bill Rock, chairman of the Stratford Waterfront and Harbor Management Commission , stated: “ For 13 years we’ve been working on this .”
The project includes removing of 50,000 cubic yards of silt from the Housatonic River channel.
According to stratfordstar.com, the dredged material will be transferred to the Long Island Sound, located about one-half mile off Long Beach.
The project was last maintained in 1975-76 when 215,000 cubic yards of shoal material was dredged and disposed of at several upland placement sites.
