APM Terminals announced that the construction works on the second container terminal at the Lázaro Cárdenas port will be delayed until mid-November.
The main reason for this delay is Hutchison Port Holdings’ opposition to the project, according to portstrategy.com.
Originally, this $900 million project was supposed to commence during October.
Lázaro Cárdenas Terminal Portuaria de Contenedores (LCT) is a hub and transshipment port located in the state of Michoacan on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
The terminal commenced operations in 2003.
It is situated in the highly industrial deep-water port of Lázaro Cárdenas. LCT is significantly closer to Mexico City than Manzanillo, another Mexican Pacific port serving this important market.
Once the development project is completed, the terminal will offer a total area of 102 hectares, with 1,485 meters of quay, and water depth along the channel and quay of 16.5 meters.
