The Port of Liverpool was awarded Port Authority of the Year at the global Containerisation International Awards held in central London.
The Port beat highly commended entries from other global ports including Los Angeles, Antwerp and Charleston. The Port of Liverpool’s Managing Director Gary Hodgson said: “ We are delighted to receive this award, and see it as recognition of all the hard work put in by the port’s employees over the last few years .”
The Port of Liverpool was recognised for its progressive and innovative approach beyond the port gates, as well as for its ambitious development plans.

This award recognises our achievement compared to other ports of global significance, and is a great platform for us to build in to the future with the development of Liverpool 2. ”
Work will get under way on Liverpool 2 – the port’s new deep-water container terminal – early in 2013. The landmark terminal, which will bring some of the world’s largest container ships to the Mersey, will be open for business in 2015. Located in the River Mersey, it will avoid vessel size restrictions of the current container terminal, which is located within a closed dock system accessed by locks. The £300m investment will generate in the region of 5,000 jobs.
