The future of a long-awaited Myall River dredging project is still murky, according to myallcoastnota.com.
The Myall River Action Group has been waiting for almost a whole year to hear from the taskforce whether the Myall River will be dredged and when.
Andrew Sharp, the Myall River Action Group member , stated: “ We’re very disappointed that nothing has been done despite all the promises and tests. It’s pretty scary what could happen this summer. They could close the lakes to any activity. We’re all tiring of it. It seems like they’re trying to make excuses not to do it and it’s to the detriment of the river.”
The Myall River provides boat access to the lakes from Port Stephens and Bulahdelah and is suitable for most crafts. The silt deposits in some sections of the lower Myall River have reduced average depth to 2 m, restricting access for larger vessels.
