The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun construction of Dredged Material Management Area IR-2 on Navigation District property in Sebastian.

Construction will be completed around December 31, 2012. Only 70 acres of the site will be developed to environmentally manage sands and silts from the maintenance dredging of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in the area.

Vegetative buffers will screen the management area from view and because of few organics in the dredged material there will be no smell.
