The 9th Pan African port conference opened Monday evening in Brazzaville, Congo, to review the relations between the state and the ports across Africa, PANA reports.

Organised by the Port Authority of Pointe-Noire, under the auspices of the Pan African Association for Port Cooperation (APCP), the conference aims to highlight the challenges and issues related to the relationship in the implementation of their respective development plans.

The meeting is being attended by representatives of states, port Chief Executive Officers, urban administration officials and international experts.

“ Faced with the many challenges of international maritime traffic, port authorities today face a number of challenges, one of which is the urgent need for more modern port infrastructure to accommodate and process increasingly larger vessels ,” said the Director General of the Port Authority of Lomé, Fogan Kogjo Adegnon, who is also president of the APCP .

Adegnon said at the conference’s opening that the ports must have larger areas to enable them to implement projects aimed at developing and extending their infrastructure.
