Dredging project at the Glace Bay harbour is scheduled to commence on January 8, according to capebretonpost.com.
“ We expect it will take 12 weeks ,” stated Brenda Alexander, the area manager for Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s small craft harbours branch .
The contractor, J&T Van Zutphen of Port Hood, will be doing the whole channel, right to the inner harbour, added Alexander.
The dredged material will be trucked to Paul McDonald Trucking & Backhoe Ltd. contractor and trucking in Birch Grove.
“There will be wash-down stations at both ends, at the wharf when they leave and at the other site when they come back. It should keep everybody happy ,” said Alexander.
After the completion of the dredging program, a sound test will be conducted to ensure the Glace Bay harbour is a certain depth, stated Herb Nash, chair of the Glace Bay Harbour Association.
