Council has moved to the next stage of investigations into potential locations for dredging parts of Narrabeen Lagoon.
“ Community consultation in 2012 found that 51% of the community support dredging Narrabeen Lagoon to increase water depth for sport and recreation activities such as sailing and kayaking.
“ The consultation also showed that 81% of our community felt it was important that there were no environmental impacts from dredging, ” said Warringah Mayor, Michael Regan.
“ Council is now taking this project to the next stage – finding if any areas can be dredged with minimal impact to the lagoon, ” added the Mayor.
The feasibility study, which is being carried out in consultation with stakeholders, will:
-Identify a short-list of potential dredging locations
-Undertake a risk analysis
-Compile existing environmental impact information
-Assess any impact on flood management
-Assess any impact on the surrounding shore and future infrastructure needs
-Identify project costs and potential benefits
A report will be made to the elected Council which will decide whether to proceed to the next stage of design and implementation.
Community information sessions will be held in 2013 to provide updates and receive feedback on the project.
