Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Company was awarded an $878,000 contract on December 27, 2012 for maintenance dredging at Portsmouth Harbor and Piscataqua River in Maine and New Hampshire.
The project was awarded and will be managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, New England District. It is scheduled to begin on February 2013, and to end no later than March 15, 2013.
According to Bill Kavanaugh, USACE, New England District, Project Manager, approximately 15,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel will be removed from the 35-foot-deep channel in the Piscataqua River above the I-95 highway bridge.
The project will include advance maintenance dredging to -40 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) plus 2-foot allowable over-depth dredging will take place on the primary shoal. Two other shoals will be dredged to -35 feet MLLW plus 2-foot of allowable over-depth.
Dredge material will be transported 3,000 feet seaward to an in-river disposal area.
