Port of Long Beach Executive Director J. Christopher Lytle will deliver the annual “State of the Port” address on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Long Beach Convention Center’s Grand Ballroom.
This will be the second State of the Port for Lytle, who assumed the Port’s top post in late 2011 just as it embarked on a $4.5 billion capital improvement program, the largest in the nation.
Lytle will give an update on the progress of construction projects, including the redevelopment of Middle Harbor and the construction of a new modern span to replace the aging Gerald Desmond Bridge. The two projects alone will generate close to 4,000 construction jobs.
The Port of Long Beach is investing not only in its future, but in the future of the region’s trade industry, which employs close to 700,000 workers. And despite the slow economic recovery, there are signs that cargo volumes are on the rise again. The Port of Long Beach had the highest December import volumes in history to close 2012.
The “State of the Port” will take place Thursday, January 31 at the Long Beach Convention Center, Grand Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
