Lithuania: Klaipeda Port, Van Oord Ink Dredging Contract

On the 23d of January, 2013 the Klaipeda Port Authority and the company „Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV“ signed the contract on the purchase of the object “The capital dredging works of the object „Improvement of Smelte vessel turning circle to accommodate gross – tonnage ships (containerships and etc)“.

The contractual price of these capital dredging works, closely related with the construction of planned Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal (LNG), is 72 568 334,47 Lt excluding VAT.

“ This is an outstanding day not only to Klaipėda Sate Seaport but also to the entire country. The concluded contract allows to launch concrete works that are necessary to start our way towards the construction of Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal, consequently the first steps towards energy independence” , – the Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevičius congratulated the conclusion of the contract. The Minister expressed his expectations that SC “Klaipėdos nafta” in the nearest future will settle disputes with undertakings that had expressed their dissatisfaction towards the tender procedure on the construction of gas pipelines, hence this strategically significant to the country project will be implemented in due time.

On the 22nd of January, 2013 the Board of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority approved the purchase of the aforementioned capital dredging works.

Pursuant to the concluded contract the period of the works covers 135 calendar days from the delivery of the first technical specifications.

Subject to this contract the planned scope of capital dredging works is approx. 1.566.650 m3. Pursuant to the technical work design the planned amount of excavated boulders in the dredged Port waters’ territory should be as follows: 84 boulders with the largest diameter from 0.8 to 1.5 metres; 27 boulders with the largest diameter exceeding 1.5 metres.

Subject to this contract the Contractor undertakes to launch the capital dredging works within 15 calendar days from the delivery of the first technical specifications and upon favourable meteorological conditions and to excavate not less than 15000 m3 of soil per 24 hours.
