Nigeria: Bayelsa State Construction and Dredging Company Inaugurated

The Chairman and Board members of the newly inaugurated Bayelsa State Construction and Dredging Company have been charged to run the outfit purely on commercial grounds with a view to shoring up the internally generated revenue profile of the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Yenagoa, His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State , also urged the Board to acquire the requisite expertise in terms of personnel and equipment that would enable the company compete favourably with its privately run counterparts.

According to the Governor, the rationale behind the setting up the company is to enable government aggressively implement its infrastructural development agenda.

Apart from being a parastatal under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Dickson noted that the company is also expected to provide employment by engaging the youths as Direct Labour Agency of the state.

He warned the Board against politicization of the affairs of the company saying, “ You are to make profit and at the end of the year declare dividends to the people of Bayelsa State”.

While urging them to work as a team, the State Chief Executive explained that the Board will do the policy formulation with the Managing Director undertaking the execution of the day to day operations of the company.

He assured the company of government’s patronage in terms of award of contract, adding “ You will have our support also to undertake construction jobs in multinational companies and other organizations that are doing business in our state”.

Responding, the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Bayelsa State Construction and Dredging Company, Chief Solomon Agwanana expressed gratitude to the Governor for their appointment.

Chief Agwanana promised that the Board would work effectively with all relevant agencies to actualize the present administration’s development agenda.

The Managing Director of the Company is Engineer Amos Waritimi, while Chief Zedekiah Ezu, Mr. Austin Asamowei and Chief Meshack Olomu are to serve as members.

Other members include Barrister Alex Angagha and Comrade Akiki Apreala.
