The City of Delray Beach has placed a lot of sand at the north end of the City’s beach as part of the City’s Emergency Dune/Beach Restoration Project.

This project is intended to assist in restoring the erosion-damaged areas along our shoreline that resulted from Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.

This emergency project, which occurred just south of George Bush Boulevard, began earlier last week and included the installation of 3,500 tons of sand (or 2,500 cubic yards). Approximately 1,000 linear yards of dunes/beach area were restored.

In addition, the City has been preliminarily working with the federal government and the US Army Corp of Engineers to identify potential funding opportunities to assist with additional emergency renourishment beach projects, from Atlantic Avenue to the north end of the beach. Contrary to published reports, these discussions have been preliminary in nature only and no commitments have been provided by the federal, state or county governments.
