Rastami is one of the greatest and most important fishing ports in the country.
It is situated in the Southern province of Bushehr bordering the Persian Gulf. Its construction has been initiated as of 1990.
Due to some operational difficulties its construction has been halted for years. It was expected that it would be put into operation in 2008. Currently it has been constructed about 95% and it is expected to be completed soon.
Fishing ports fall under the supervision of the Iranian Fisheries Organization despite the commercial ports which are supervised by the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) as the port-and-maritime authority in Iran.
There are numerous fishing ports in the North of the country (bordering the Caspian Sea) and the South (bordering Persian Gulf).
A top official of the Iranian Fisheries Organization said that yard preparation and dredging of the basin for accommodation of fishing boats as well as construction of administrative buildings are remaining which are to be carried out by the private sector. He said that the Iranian Fisheries Organization is aiming to hold tender for the remaining construction works for this fishing port.
