Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host a public meeting on the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Study, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Main Library at 303 North Laura Street, Jacksonville, Fla.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public with an opportunity to discuss the proposed removal of rock from the Federal Navigation Channel using confined blasting techniques. A presentation will be provided, and the public will have an opportunity for comment.
The Jacksonville District is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel along the St. Johns River from its current project depth of 40-feet to a maximum depth of 50-feet. The study is focused on the portion of the harbor up to river mile 13. The study will evaluate navigation concerns and provide recommendations for investigating navigation improvements.
