The Glace Bay harbour dredging program is nearing its completion, reports capebretonpost.com.
The dredging project, undertaken by J&T Van Zutphen of Port Hood, commenced on Janary 8, 2013.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans conducted a sound test to ensure the appropriate depth of the harbour.
Regarding this, Herb Nash, chair of the Glace Bay Harbour Authority , stated: “ They (contractors) thought they were done, but after measuring it and sound tests were done, the harbour still had some high spots. They are back now cutting them down. It is just a touch-up, a few spots here and there. I think it will be done this week .”
According to Nash, the fishermen seem to be happy because the dredging project has finally been undertaken in this area.
