The Illecillewaet River dredging program is nearing its completion, reports revelstoketimesreview.com.
“ The initial work involved excavating a deep channel in the Illecillewaet River through the reach where flooding occurred ,” Hydro announced in a statement.
So far, around 30,000 cubic meters have been dredged from the Illecillewaet’s riverbed.
This anti-flood program officially commenced on March 11 and is scheduled to be wrapped up on March 23.
Background
BC Hydro, the City of Revelstoke and the Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations undertake the Illecillewaet River dredging project aiming that this venture should reduce flooding risk to low-lying residences in the area.
The work to remove river gravel has been conducted downstream of the Fourth Street bridge starting in the period of the year when river conditions are suitable.
