Cargill and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have reached agreement on expanding the current site in the Botlek area by 28,000m2.
Cargill has been operating from the Botlek area since 1984, and has both an inland shipping jetty and a sea jetty there. Thanks to a previous agreement with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the sea jetty was relocated earlier this year. It is now possible for larger ships – over 200m long – with a deeper draught to access the jetty directly. The result of this adjustment is a simplified logistics process with fewer transport movements.
Cargill is one of the leading companies in the processing of vegetable oils and fats, and its refinery in Rotterdam is one of largest in Europe. “ These expansions cement Cargill’s long-term future in the Botlek area ,” says Harold Poelma, head of Cargill’s refined oils business in Europe.
“Cargill is an early and good example of what we want to achieve with the restructuring of the Botlek area: to offer clients the space they need to achieve their ambitions for growth and improve the infrastructure,” according to Bas Hennissen, Vice President Industry & Bulk Cargo at the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
