U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a plan for the Ocean City beach renourishment program.
This project consists of an offshore ocean-going, hopper or hydraulic, deep depth dredging of one million cubic yards of sand for beach renourishment of the Ocean City shoreline in response to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy and for periodic shoreline maintenance.
Sand for this project will be pumped from an offshore borrow area, located approximately 2-3 miles offshore Ocean City, MD.
This contract will also include the construction or repair of dune, providing and planting of dune grass, and providing and installing rope fencing.
Additionally, the project requires a large amount of beach-fill in a relatively short window of time.
The contract duration will be approximately 210 calendar days and estimated cost range is between $10,000,000 and $25,000,000.
