General Electric Corp. is gearing up for the 2013 Hudson River dredging season, reports saratogian.com.
This capital dredging project is scheduled to get underway during the next month, officials announced Thursday.
This year’s cleanup work will focus on two separate areas:
– a roughly mile-long stretch above Thompson Island Dam, and
– from Fort Miller Dam to a point just above Schuylerville.
Regarding this plan, Tim Kruppenbacher, General Electric Co.’s dredging operations manager , stated: “ Those are the biggest challenges. Last year, we only had to move sediment five miles (to a Fort Edward dewatering facility). This year, toward the end of the season, it could be 10 to 12 miles .”
The Hudson River dredging program will take place 24 hours a day, six days per week, with one day off for maintenance duties.
