U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre announced today that $585,000 in federal funds have been secured for dredging essential coastal projects in Southeastern North Carolina.
Congressman McIntyre stated, “ More good news for our coastal projects! Securing resources to help our inlets, waterways, and beaches has always been a priority of mine, and we will keep fighting to help our coastal communities.”
The funds secured will be used by the Army Corps of Engineers for the following projects:
• $255,000 for dredging of Lockwoods Folly River;
• $250,000 for dredging of the Carolina Beach Inlet; and
• $80,000 for planning and development of projects along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
Congressman McIntyre recently toured Carolina Beach and Kure Beach with the Army Corps of Engineers and local officials to view the renourishment efforts underway. This work was made possible by the $9.3 million in federal funds Congressman McIntyre secured for those projects.
Congressman McIntyre, Chairman of the Congressional Waterways Caucus, has long advocated the need to improve the maintenance of the numerous inlets to the Intracoastal Waterway in the Cape Fear Region, and he has been a supporter of investments to coastal infrastructure and beach renourishment projects.
