U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced the details about the Ocean City beach replenishment project.
This project consists of offshore ocean-going, hopper or hydraulic, deep depth dredging of approximately 850,000 cubic yards of sand for beach re-nourishment of the Ocean City shoreline in response to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy and for periodic shoreline maintenance.
Sand for this replenishment project will be pumped from an offshore borrow area for replacement of the existing beach and dune system. The source of sand is located approximately 2-3 miles offshore of Ocean City, MD.
This contract will also include the construction or repair of dune, providing and planting of dune grass, and providing and installing rope fencing.
The contract duration will be approximately 210 calendar days and the estimated cost range is between $10 mln and $25 mln.
