An unexploded shell was found in Arabian Sea off Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) coast during the dredging project, reports indianexpress.com.
The discovery was made when a dredging vessel HAM-318 was engaged in dredging operations in the harbour when the unexploded projectile shell was found stuck to its drag head.
“ The ship informed harbour and JNPT sought assistance from Indian Navy for removal of the shell. A team of explosives experts led by commander Mukul Rathi was rushed. The shell was successfully removed and has been sent for further analysis and safe disposal, ” stated a defence spokesperson.
The shell was 40 cm long, had a 10-cm diameter and weighed 10 kg, officials said, according to indianexpress.com.
