Dublin Port Company welcomes the new National Ports Policy launched by Minister Leo Varadkar recently.
The policy recognises Dublin Port as one of three Tier 1 ports of national significance and endorses the objectives the Port has set for itself in its Masterplan 2012 to 2040.
Speaking after the launch, Dublin Port Company’s Chairperson, Lucy McCaffrey , commented: “Dublin Port Company welcomes the clarity of the new ports policy and the focus and commitment it brings to the development of future port capacity by the country’s major ports, particularly Dublin.
“We are especially pleased with the policy’s recognition of the challenge facing ports to operate and develop in ways which are compatible with both the natural and built environments.”
Dublin Port recently commenced a consultation process with An Bord Pleanála regarding the redevelopment of Alexandra Basin, including the building of new cruise berths adjacent to East Link Bridge. The project will also add substantially to Dublin’s capacity and to its ability to handle larger ships. Ms. McCaffrey commented that “ the new port policy provides a clear national context for this new and exciting project and for further infrastructure developments in future years”.
