Yesterday, the Ching Fu Shipbuilding launched a 2400 m3 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD).

The vessel has been ordered by Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau (KHB) and will be used for daily maintenance of Kaohsiung port.

The main particulars of the vessel are as follows:

L.o.a – 83.3 m;

L.p.p. – 75.0 m;

Breadth Moulded – 15.9 m;

Depth Moulded – 5.7 m;

Dredging draught – 5.0 m;

Hopper capacity – 2400 m3;

Accommodation – 20 pers.

The TSHD has been designed by FKAB in cooperation with HollandMT and incorporates KHB’s requirements for a highly maneuverable dredger, suitable for maintenance dredging but also for small capital dredging projects.

The dredger is designed in accordance with the rules of Bureau Veritas, features a single dragarm, direct diesel driven inboard dredge pump, flush bottom doors, bow coupling, adjustable overflow and degassing system.

In the aft of the vessel, the engine room is situated, comprising the main propulsion machinery, diesel generators and auxiliary equipment. The dredge- and jet-pump are located in the fore ship.

The propulsion plant consists of a double shaft arrangement, each with a fixed pitch propeller. An electric powered bow thruster is fitted for easy maneuvering and positioning on the job.

The full size accommodation is located on the aft ship and is fitted with 12 crew cabins.

For this project HollandMT also designed and supplied the complete dredging system including dredge pump, jetwater system, dragarm and gantries, winches, bow coupling, all dredge pipe lines & gate valves, 12 bottom doors & operating mechanism, overflow, degassing system and dredge instrumentation & monitoring system.

The dredger is expected to be completed in the 3rd quarter of this year.
