The worlds largest container vessels are to call at Busan Port.
Busan Port Authority(BPA, President Ki-tack Lim) stated that Alexander Von Humboldt of CMA-CGM, the worlds 3rd largest shipping company in France, will enter Busan New Container Terminal(BNCT) at the Busan New Port.
The vessel(175,343t) was constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and is capable of loading 16,022 6-meter containers. Currently, the vessel can load the largest amount of containers in the world.
“Alexander Von Humboldt” is 396 meters in length, 53.6 meters in width, and with a 16-meter draft, and it is the size of 4 football fields. This vessel will be employed on the Asia-Europe route, and it will load 800 containers at Busan New Port before it leaves for Shanghai, China.
On the 29th, EBBA MAERSK of the worlds top shipping company, Maersk Line, will enter PNC Terminal, Busan New Port. “EBBA MAERSK” is 397.7 meters in length, 56.5 meters in width and can load 15,500 containers.
As the worlds largest container vessels make calls at Busan Port consecutively, as having outstanding infrastructure including depth of water and equipment.
BPA has carried out active marketing activities for global liners in order to attract mega-sized container vessels.
Meanwhile, BPA offers various incentives including port ‧ clearance ‧ berth ‧ anchorage charges to vessels with over 100 thousand tons of cargo.
Over 13,000 TEU class vessels entered Busan New Port 52 times this year, and this is a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. Busan Port is attracting mega sized vessels.
Busan Port was deepened to allow bigger ships to dock. Since the dredging project the port has experienced strong growth both in goods and cruise ship volumes.
