The Federal Government said on Saturday that it would soon dredge River Benue up to Yola frenzies in Adamawa.
Information Minister Labaran Maku announced this at a town-hall meeting in Gusau as part of the on-going Good Governance Tour to Zamfara.
Maku said the government had concluded arrangement for dredging that would pass through Benue and terminate in Yola.
He explained that apart from providing another way of transportation, the project would be a fulfilment of the Umaru Yar’adua-led objective and legacy.
He stated that the Federal Government had attained 50 per cent in the modern rail line project, which would at the end link up Kano and Abuja through Kaduna.
The minister explained that the tour was aimed at showcasing projects and programmes being executed by the different tiers of government and projecting same to the rest of the world.
He said that “in the past, projects failed as a result of poor governance and this tour would now portray a good picture of our performances as a government”.
While commending the Zamfara Government for ensuring peace in the state, Maku assured that the Federal Government would revive all collapsed dams in the country, open up new ones in Benue and Taraba.
He added that emphasis would be placed on the production of crops that were found in commercial quantity in particular locations, such as rice and cotton in Zamfara.
He urged Nigerians to continue to support and pray for their leaders, to reap maximum benefits of the dividends of democracy.
The governor pledged to deliver more democracy dividends to the people to complement Federal Government’s efforts at national development.
