Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) sent a letter to Secretary of the Army John McHugh pushing him and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide a PAC Report & Chief’s Report to Congress for the Morganza to the Gulf project by July 2013.
This report is crucial for the implementation of the project and has been repeatedly delayed. Congressman Cassidy released the following statement:
“ The delays for the Morganza to the Gulf project have been unacceptable, ” said Cassidy. “The project was authorized by Congress in 2000, and since that time, the Corps of Engineers has missed deadlines and spent an estimated $72 million studying the project. Meanwhile, coastal communities remain needlessly vulnerable to flooding and coastal erosion. The Corps of Engineers must meet its obligations to the people of Louisiana and Congress by moving this project forward.”
Mr. Reggie Dupre, the Director of the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District , also released the following statement: “I am hopeful that Congressman Cassidy’s letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will further bring much needed attention to Morganza to the Gulf and will help mitigate further delays in its reauthorization. ”
