USA: Corps Invites Bids for Grand Traverse Breakwater Replacement

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, has invited bidders to submit their offers for the construction of a 210 foot long double walled steel sheet pile breakwater located on the south end of Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan.

The work includes removal of 3,500 cubic yards of deteriorated timber crib structure, fill and broken concrete/rubble and construction of approximately 210 foot long, 20 foot high, 22 foot wide anchored, double walled steel sheet pile (SSP) breakwater. The breakwater will be capped with a 15” thick reinforced concrete cap with optional hand railing.

Additional work includes placement of approximately 1,000 tons of scour stone, placement of ten mooring cleats, and dredging of approximately 16,000 cubic yards of medium to dense sand.

This contract will have an estimated 1 year completion requirement.

The estimated award date for the project is September 2013, and the estimated cost of construction is between $1 mln and $5 mln.
